Lyla Miklos is a communicator, activist, writer, organizer, artist and performer. An out bisexual woman of Hungarian and Irish-Canadian heritage, Lyla was originally born and raised in Frobisher Bay, Baffin Island, North West Territories (now Iqaluit, Baffin Island, Nunavut). Lyla has called Hamilton, Ontario home since 1982.

A multiple award-winning graduate of Mohawk College's Media Studies program, Lyla has been working in media and communications for over a decade. Her wealth of broadcasting experiences includes past roles with Showcase ACTION, Showcase DIVA, SPACE, Bravo, Drive-In Classics, Vision TV, The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, Y95 and CHML. She is the Host and Producer of Centre Stage on C101.5 FM: Mohawk College Radio and is an occasional guest panelist on Cable 14's The Opinionators. Lyla is the owner of Lyla-The Publicist, a business focused on providing media relations services. She has served as a Publicist and Special Events Organizer for several arts, social justice and political organizations in the Hamilton area.

Lyla has been actively involved for nearly two decades with Hamilton’s theatre arts scene. Her talents have been showcased both in front of and behind the footlights with Hamilton Theatre Inc., Theatre Aquarius, The Players' Guild of Hamilton, Drury Lane Theatricals, Theatre Ancaster, Stoney Creek Little Theatre, The Peninsula Players, Words Words Words, Piccadilly Circus and HammerTheatre. An accomplished vocalist, Lyla has belted out O Canada at sporting events, recorded in studio with local area musicians, performed numerous musical theatre roles, added her voice to several choirs and showcased her unique vocal talents as a soloist in countless venues throughout Southern Ontario.

Lyla has been a Queer activist in the Hamilton area for nearly a decade. Lyla helped to create Mohawk Pride - Mohawk College’s first official support and social club for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender students. Lyla was also instrumental in helping to form the GLBT Advisory Committee for the City of Hamilton and was the Interim Chair from 2003 to 2004. Lyla has helped to organize Hamilton Pride celebrations for over a decade and chaired the organization in 2005 and 2002. She has volunteered as a support group facilitator for the Toronto Bisexual Network, Bisexual Women of Toronto and the Hamilton Bisexual Network. She is a friend of The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton and Centenary United Church, religious organizations who proudly support Hamilton's GLBT Communities.

Lyla has volunteered her time as a board or committee member with several organizations including The Status of Women Advisory Committee for The City of Hamilton, Elect More Women, Arts Hamilton’s Theatre Arts Committee, Hamilton Theatre Inc., Strengthening Hamilton's Community Initiative, The Hamilton West Provincial NDP Riding Association, The Hamilton Centre Federal NDP Riding Association, The Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (Local 723 M), The CHUM Locals Council, The Mohawk College Alumni Association, and The Mohawk Students’ Association.

Lyla has been involved in Southern Ontario’s science fiction fandom community for over two decades, lending her support and talents to several fan clubs and conventions including: Polaris, Toronto Trek, Ad Astra, Filk Ontario, Gaylaxicon 2006, Torcon 3 (2003 Worldcon), Odyssey Trek and The USS Venture.
